Austin FX3
Perhaps the best-remembered cab is the Austin FX3, many thousands of these were built for London service in the 1950s.

2008 sees the LVTA’s 30th anniversary. As it has done over the past three decades, the Association brings together those interested in retired London-type purpose built taxicabs and related vehicles built on taxicab chassis. Our Taxi Register includes a whole variety of models ranging from the earliest of motor cabs right up to the Fairways, Metrocabs and TX1s of today.

As well as a thriving membership in the UK, we have a North American Section, which takes care of our members in the USA and Canada and a Dutch Section, which handles the Association’s administration for our many members in mainland Europe. You can find out about these Sections by going to the ‘Join’ page and clicking on the ‘information’ links on the ‘application form’ field.

Starting point!
It isn't always "spit and polish" - many of our members' cars have been rescued in derelict condition, with many years spent on the restoration process.

The great majority of us are amateur enthusiasts, continuing their hobby in their spare time. Many are presently engaged in restoration work, which is a most exacting and demanding task, often requiring considerable patience and research. As members, we are able to take advantage of the technical assistance offered within the Association, some of which comes from members who have professional experience within the cab trade. Some of us do not own a cab but enjoy being part of the overall scene in order to give support to the Association, whenever needed.

Whatever the type of activity we take part in, taxicabs are the genuine interest of us all and we have a wealth of knowledge on this subject within our world-wide membership. We also have an extensive and growing archive. As such, we are happy to advise official bodies such as museums on technical and historical matters relating to taxicabs.

Given sufficient notice, (please remember we are mostly amateurs, with homes to run and most with full-time jobs) we may, as an Association or as individuals be able to provide vintage cabs for special events. Through the ‘Links’ page we can also connect you to the websites of members who hire out vintage cabs of all ages for weddings and TV and film work as part of their business.

Whether or not you choose to join the LVTA, we hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and do feel welcome to come back as often as you like.

We regret that we are unable to give advice of a technical nature to non-members.
