LVTA EventsOFFICIAL CLUB EVENTS 2012
2010 was a very memorable year for the LVTA, both for the wide variety of events which we attended, with record numbers of vehicles, and also for our biggest rally to date, where we were joined by international members from four different countries. The rally season got off to a ‘flying start’ at Wisley Airfield in April when 15 taxis assembled to compliment the 300 buses on display at the annual ‘Spring Gathering’ hosted by the London Bus Preservation Trust.
The Enfield Pageant of Motoring in May saw a wide variety of taxis on display over the three day event, including a rare Austin FL2 and a gas powered taxi from Japan. Thankfully the weather was kinder to us than in previous years, allowing the assembled vehicles to be seen at their gleaming best.
May also saw us participate in the London to Brighton Commercial Vehicle Rally. Despite persistent torrential rain we all arrived safely; cold and wet, but relieved and happy to have made the journey.
The Bromley Pageant of Motoring in June is the largest single day classic car show in the World, attracting over 3,000 exhibitors and 30,000 visitors. Our impressive display of taxis, period photographs, rare memorabilia and historical information earned us third prize in the ‘special club display’ category for the second year in succession.
Also attended in June was the ‘Austin Weekend’ hosted by ‘Isle of Wight Austins’, which saw several of our members very warmly welcomed for a well organised and extremely enjoyable programme of social events, rallies and scenic road runs around the Island.
July saw two popular and long standing fixtures in the LVTA calendar, the first being the North Weald Bus Rally, held at the historic former RAF Battle of Britain fighter base in Essex. Both vintage and modern taxis from as far afield as Manchester were on display alongside classic buses and coaches of all types and ages.
Our UK rally season culminated at the Uxbridge Auto Show, where our Vice Chairman from the USA, our European representative from the Netherlands and members from Denmark & Italy all came to join UK members from right across England for one of our biggest and best events yet. Eager anticipation turned to broad smiles as taxis filled our allotted pitch to capacity, and members from around the world finally got to meet with each other face to face. After a sumptuous picnic lunch, we were invited to parade our taxis in the central arena, to the delight of both the public and our international guests, some of whom bravely participated in a display of close formation driving. The final highlight of the day was our annual presentation of trophies, not only for the best presented vehicles, but also our most deserving members. We could not have asked for a more fitting finale to end our rally season.
